PURPOSE OF POSITION
The Executive Director is responsible for planning and administering the CASA program for Kosciusko County that:
- Provides advocacy services to children, who are involved in child welfare court proceedings or custody family law cases due to allegations of abuse or neglect.
- Is administered in accordance with CASA standards, CASA mission, goals, and policies.
- Operates under the general direction of the agency’s Board of Directors.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
General Administration: Participates in policy formation with the Board. Collaboratively develops strategic plan with the Board. Serves as staff representative on Board committees. Communicates and implements policies approved by the Board. Ensures agency compliance with state and national CASA regulations. Has chief administrative responsibility for public accountability of the agency and ensures that legal obligations are met.
Financial Management: Works with Board to prepare agency budget and long-term funding plans. Manages all financial operations of the agency within acceptable practices of the accounting profession. Oversees the completion of an annual financial review or compilation. Participates in fund development with the Fund Development Committee. Writes and manages all agency grants and reports progress to grant sources.
Volunteer Coordination: Recruits, screens, trains, supervises and terminates volunteers. Plans and implements the initial training. Oversees continuing education and in-service training opportunities.
Volunteer Management: Attends all scheduled court hearings, as well as any emergency detention hearings. Evaluates potential volunteers for each case assigned. Oversees the case preparation for volunteers. Observes the review and submittal of CASA Reports to the Court.
Program Management: Oversees all program services of the agency to provide maximum efficiency and effectiveness. Recommends, develops and provides input and oversight on proposed new programs while maintaining balanced growth in ongoing programs. Evaluates existing programs in collaboration with the Board. Completes program evaluation.
Donor Development & Retention: Actively seeks to develop new donors to the organization as well as work to retain donors. Work with the Fund Development Committee, Marketing Committee, and Board to communicate often and effectively with all possible and current donors. Meet with donors regularly. Uses the donor management system effectively to track donor information.
Fundraising: Manages the fundraising efforts of the organization, working with board and committees to plan and execute fundraising efforts, including all events and campaigns. Sets yearly fundraising goals and keeps up to date on trends to maximize fundraising efforts.
Human Resources: Hires, evaluates, and terminates staff. Provides overall leadership. Supervises and directs staff with the purpose of successful performance of the agency, including active participation in or approval of personnel actions. Develops personnel policies collaboratively with the Governance Committee.
Board Relations: Assists in Board development. Informs Board of agency’s development. Communicates with Board members on projects or new developments.
Public and Community Relations: Represents agency to various publics including board, staff, volunteers, contributors, other non-profit, profit, and government agencies, inquiring public, and media. Communicates with state CASA office on a regular basis. Participates on community committees to promote awareness of agency. Seeks opportunities to create community awareness involving the issues of abuse and neglect of children.
Other Responsibilities: Performance of other duties deemed necessary or requested by the Board of Directors.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required Qualifications
- A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree.
- Prior supervisory and recruiting experience with both volunteers and employees
- Established skills in interpersonal relations, such as communication skills
- Demonstrated fundraising experience, such as special events
- Proven program management skills, such as financial management and program development
- Literacy in basic computer programs, such as word processing, spread sheets, e-mail
- Commitment to mission of the agency
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in social work, counseling, psychology, business administration, or related field
- Non-profit administrative experience
- Bilingual
- Proven grant writing skills
OSHA Requirements
- The position requires frequent twisting, bending and lifting of items up to 50 pounds
- The position is not exposed routinely to bloodborne pathogens
