OUR MISSION
Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of Kosciusko County is a non-profit organization committed to speaking in the
best interest of children, who are at risk for abuse and neglect. CASA recruits, trains, and supports volunteers to serve
at-risk children in the family court system.
Staff Advocate Specialist JOB DESCRIPTION
Requirements:
• Report to the Executive Director.
• Completes 33 hours of pre-service CASA training.
• Supervise a caseload of up to 15 volunteers while acting as a CASA advocate on cases as well.
• Completes a minimum of 12 Continuing Ed hours yearly, and assists with coordination of volunteer attendance if requested.
• Attends staff meetings, case staffings, and assists in the evaluation of the program.
• Attend annual state CASA conference and coordinate volunteer participation.
• Work 36-40 hours a week. Hours of 8-4:30 with some evening and weekend event and training attendance required.
Recruit/Training:
• Assist in recruiting of new CASA volunteers.
• Assist Program Manager with pre-service CASA trainings.
• Assist with in-service training to volunteers.
Volunteer Supervisor Staff CASA Advocate:
• Provide quality case management and supervision of volunteers as required by State CASA and National
CASA standards, predominantly supervising non-CHINS cases.
• Supervise unassigned cases and management of cases until they are assigned to a CASA volunteer.
• Act as a staff CASA for predominantly non-CHINS cases.
• Reviews new cases and assists in assigning appropriate volunteers, in consultation with team.
• Prepares and distributes CASA volunteer assignment documentation.
• Helps develop initial case plans and ongoing strategies for advocacy and child(rens) best interests.
• Attend initial Child and Family Team Meetings and other meetings as necessary.
• Supports the writing of and timely review and submission of volunteer CASA court reports as well as your own.
• Maintains accurate case files in office and in Optima, including but not limited to court reports from DCS and CASA volunteer, criminal checks, medical/mental health records, criminal records and any other pertinent information.
• Enter data on cases into Optima in a timely manner and monitor and assist volunteers in doing the same.
• Tracks court dates, calendars court dates in Optima, advises CASA volunteers of court dates.
• Attends court hearings.
• Provides assistance, support and consultation for volunteers as needed and/or requested.
• Communicates frequently with CASA volunteers to support and assist in case progress.
• Assist the Program Manager and Executive Director in completion of volunteer evaluations.
• Monitor CASA volunteers seeing child(ren) every 30 days; see children in cases you are acting as CASA at minimum every 30 days.
• Assists CASA volunteers with documentation collection from various organizations and service providers as well as filing such documentation in Optima.
• Assist with volunteer appreciation events.
Other Duties:
• Attend fundraising events.
• Participate in community awareness events when necessary.
• Provide office and phone coverage.
• Participate in other duties as may be assigned by the Executive Director.
• Assist with volunteer recognition, recruitment efforts and strategies.
• Completes work time sheets bi-weekly and submits the same to the Executive Director every Friday.
• Attends conferences/seminars/meetings and/or trainings as requested by the Executive Director.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Commitment to mission, vision, values, and culture of CASA of Kosciusko County
• Minimum of a High School Diploma or Equivalency and experience in social work, behavioral health, working with children a plus.
• Proficient computer skills including: Microsoft office suite, database management, Adobe.
• Superb written, verbal and interpersonal skills.
• Time management and flexibility with job duties.
• Sound judgment, professionalism and a positive attitude.
• Resourcefulness, creativity and strong problem-solving skills.
